Oregon State dropped games on consecutive days for the first time in more than a year when Nevada’s Keaton Smith smacked a solo homer in the bottom of the 10th to beat the No. 4 Beavers 7-6 Tuesday afternoon in Reno, Nev.Oregon State, which lost to the Wolf Pack in 12 innings Monday, blew a 6-4 ninth-inning lead. The Beavers, who are one-half game out of first place in the Pac-12 behind conference-leading Stanford, attempt to bounce back Friday with the start of a three-game series against Washington State in Corvallis. Oregon State and Nevada have combined to play five consecutive extra inning games against each other, dating back to 2012. After being exiled for almost two decades, King Cotton is making a jubilant return to Pine Bluff. The King Cotton Classic, which was a national-level high school basketball tournament held at the Pine Bluff Convention Center from 1983-1999, is back in town for another run. Go Forward Pine Bluff officials are eager to see the return of the boys basketball tournament that features eight teams from seven states. "It should be a really good event," Go Forward Pine Bluff CEO Ryan Watley said. "Ticket sales are up and everyone seems to be excited for it. There's only a few minor things that we need to complete." The three-day tournament starts Thursday, with the championship game scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday. On Friday night, Nevada played a poor first half, couldn't seem to buy a 3-point basket, trailed by as many as 15 points -- and still beat the No. 20 team in the country pretty convincingly. The No. 6 Wolf Pack outscored Arizona State in the second half, 48-30, and went on to beat the Sun Devils, 72-66, in the nightcap of the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic at Staples Center. Nevada improved to 9-0 and remained one of the nation's 10 unbeaten teams. Arizona State dropped to 7-1 and fell from those same unbeaten ranks.
