Manchester City are overwhelming favourites to retain their Premier League crown in 2018/19. City were devastating last season as they beat every side who lined up against them, and this term it seems the biggest threat stopping them from winning consecutive titles is themselves. Pep Guardiola's champions scored more goals and won more points than any side in Premier League history as they finished 19 points clear of neighbours Manchester United. This summer, Guardiola has strengthened his attacking options further with the £60m signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester. After missing out on Jorginho to Chelsea, the club insist they will not make any more major signings, so Guardiola's all-conquering squad will be trusted to retain their title. However, Liverpool and Arsenal have spent millions to solve long-term problems, Chelsea have appointed Maurizio Sarri as manager, while Manchester United and Tottenham are still in the market for reinforcements. So who will realistically … [Read more...] about Are Liverpool and Man Utd City’s biggest rivals for the title?

As football snobs go, you'll go a long way to find worse than bitter rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. And now Jurgen Klopp has discovered Jose Mourinho's two-faced knack of complaining bitterly about other clubs' spending while happily smashing transfer records himself, the Reds of Manchester and Merseyside have become even more alike. The howls of protest which greet every penny of “oil money”the Blues spend have been as loud in Anfield as they are in Old Trafford. And yet, curiously, it appears that in the last couple of years it has been United and Liverpool who have been “ruining football”. The Scousers - who square up to City in a pre-season friendly in New Jersey on Wednesday night - have just smashed the Blues' world record spend in a calendar year by splashing out around £248million, roughly £9million more than City spent in 2017. They now possess the world's most expensive goalkeeper in £65million Alisson, costing nearly twice as … [Read more...] about The hypocrisy of Liverpool and Man United over Man City spending
Andy Robertson has penned a brand new chant for Virgil van Dijk - and Liverpool's record signing approves. The Dutchman converted Robertson's excellent cross to put the Reds ahead against Dortmund on Sunday, although they would eventually lose the pre-season friendly 3-1. Posting a clip of the goal on Instagram, Robertson wrote: This is the rhythm of Van Dijk, Van Dijk, oh yeaaahhhhhh #wantshisownsong @virgilvandijk." The tune, presumably, is that of 1993 smash hit Rhythm of the Night by Corona. Van Dijk took to social media to seemingly confirm his appreciation of the suggestion with an amusing GIF. The defensive duo have struck up an excellent partnership both on and off the pitch with the pair crucial in Liverpool's successful run to the Champions League final. According to The Mirror , the club are targeting the 27-year-old forward with a view to signing him if they earn promotion to the Premier League in the play-off final later this month. Marega has scored 23 goals in 40 appearances for Porto this season, and helped guide the club to winning the Primeira Liga in Portugal. The report also says that Porto are asking for £35m for Marega, who has previously been linked with Everton and West Ham. Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly ready to make an offer for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart this summer. The 31-year-old spent this season on loan at West Ham United, and was recently left out by England manager Gareth Southgate for this summer's World Cup. According to The Mirror , Wolves and Southampton are both in the market for a new goalkeeper and will offer Hart a lifeline this summer. Since Pep Guardiola's arrival at Man City, Hart has spent the past two seasons … [Read more...] about Transfer rumours: Aston Villa, Southampton and Man City all feature
He was again substituted. He was booed off. He even appeared set to go straight down the tunnel before checking back and taking a place on the bench, but this was more like the Paul Pogba Manchester United have invested so heavily in as he drove them forward to defeat Bournemouth. Jose Mourinho had demanded a reaction and he got it. The manager made seven changes to the team who lost so dismally to West Bromwich Albion at home last Sunday, and the only hangover from that result was his demeanour. Stony-faced Mourinho did not celebrate either goal and spoke afterwards that he “still lives with the emotions” of that desperate performance. His players should take heed. But having called them out, they responded. Tellingly, despite those changes, Pogba started and clearly the message was that he had to do better, and eventually he did. “Top performance,” Mourinho said. “Obviously the performance against [Manchester] City was special because … [Read more...] about Paul Pogba hits heights and Man Utd rely on reserves of strength to cut through Bournemouth
