The move away from cash has been a long-term trend, but the crisis has accelerated changes in shopping habits and the options on offer to consumers. Some campaign groups have warned that this risks leaving vulnerable people with no access to cash even though they may be reliant on it. … [Read more...] about Bank notes pose ‘low risk’ of spreading Covid-19

Indonesian central bank: signs of inflation pressure may be seen in Q4
Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesia’s central bank said signs of inflation accelerating might be seen in the fourth quarter but the bank would not immediately raise interest rates in response, Governor Perry Warjiyo said on January 25. Warjiyo told a briefing of senior editors the exit policy from monetary stimulus would probably start with Bank Indonesia mopping up excess liquidity, while interest rates would stay low until policymakers deemed there was a risk of high inflation. BI cut interest rates a total of 125 basis points and pumped more than 50 billion USD of liquidity into the financial system last year to help the economy weather the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. This year, BI has bought 25.9 trillion rupiah (1.85 billion USD) of bonds, Warjiyo said./. … [Read more...] about Indonesian central bank: signs of inflation pressure may be seen in Q4

Trump is not a fascist. But that didn’t make him any less dangerous to our democracy
Donald Trump, meanwhile, acted as if the state only existed as a transactional tool that he could wield at his will. It seems he was repeatedly baffled by the discovery that he did not have unlimited executive power but was bound by the Constitution and laws. He never seemed to comprehend that he needed to follow process in exercising power. When the Supreme Court justices he appointed, Vice President Mike Pence and Attorney General William Barr upheld the Constitution, rather than do as he wished, Trump took it personally and considered Pence's refusal to overturn the election a betrayal. In Trump's world, letting him down personally also meant letting down and destroying all of America. … [Read more...] about Trump is not a fascist.
