AMERICAN FORK, Utah — Jon McNaughton did not intend to become the country’s most famous pro-Trump, mass-market painter of the 21st century. But then, to achieve such an identity does require a modicum of cultivation; it does not happen overnight. In 2008, the Utah artist was selling landscapes out of a gallery in a shopping mall. Then the presidential election happened and McNaughton, who didn’t like John McCain or Barack Obama, was struck with inspiration. The result, “One Nation Under God,” was a massive canvas featuring Jesus Christ holding a copy of the Constitution, surrounded by Davy Crockett, Ronald Reagan and 61 other historical figures dismayed by the direction of the country (Satan, also in the painting, was pleased). It wasn’t particularly subtle, but something about the work spoke to people and a new creative doorway was opened. Jon McNaughton with his latest work, "Expose the Truth." Dozens of Donald Trump supporters championed the bizarre "QAnon" conspiracy theory at Tuesday's Tampa rally, a fact that instantly drew national media attention. The Washington Post called "QAnon" a "deranged conspiracy cult" in a Wednesday news story that shot to the top of its "most read" category. Reason, the libertarian magazine, called Tuesday a "coming out party" for believers in the conspiracy. QAnon supporters believe that at least one government insider, "Q," is using various platforms to feed "anons" — Q's followers — information about…well, all sorts of things. As the Guardian noted in this excellent explainer, it can be difficult to pin down what exactly proponents of QAnon take the consequences of Q's dispatches to be. But many have extrapolated the breadcrumbs supposedly left behind by the deep state agent (or agents) to mean that Hollywood celebrities are engaged in a widespread pedophilia ring; that bad actors once … [Read more...] about Dozens of Trump supporters championed the ‘QAnon’ conspiracy at his Tampa rally. Culture Donald Trump CNN hosts Don Lemon and Brian Stelter were the target of a death threat heard on-air Friday during a live C-SPAN program about Trump and his supporters' dislike for news media. The caller identified himself to the “Washington Journal” host as “Don” from State College, Pennsylvania, and a supporter of Trump’s criticism of news media outlets. The brief comment made during the live broadcast falsely claimed the CNN hosts labeled all supporters of President Donald Trump as “racists.” Stelter later flatly denied he’d made the accusation against supporters of the president, but he did note Fox News’ Sean Hannity recently airing a years-old clip of Stelter discussing “racial anxiety” over Trump’s election. “Good morning, it all started when Trump got elected,” the caller told C-SPAN host Greta Wodele Brawner, with slightly slurred speech. “Brian Stelter and Don Lemon from CNN called … [Read more...] about C-SPAN Caller Threatens To Shoot CNN’s Don Lemon, Brian Stelter For Allegedly Calling Trump Supporters ‘Racists’
U.S. Donald Trump Just kidding, say the two Ohio men who showed up at a rally for President Donald Trump on Saturday wearing t-shirts saying they’d “Rather Be a Russian than a Democrat.” A photo of the two Trump supporters on the Cleveland Plain Dealer website quickly went viral, provoking glee, disgust and bewilderment worldwide, including in Moscow, where the Kremlin-controlled RT news site crowed that the t-shirt was “sending Democrats into meltdown.” But the two men, Republicans, said they didn’t really mean they’d rather live in Russia. “We were just fooling around,” James “Tim” Alicie, a 60-year-old Delaware, Ohio, auto body shop owner, told Newsweek in a telephone interview Tuesday. “It wasn’t meant to be mean to anybody.” Would he really rather live in Russian than be a Democrat? Last Updated Jun 16, 2018 5:22 PM EDT WASHINGTON -- President Trump ignited eleventh-hour confusion Friday over Republican efforts to push immigration legislation through the House, saying he wouldn't sign a "moderate" package. The White House later walked back the comments, formally endorsing the measure and saying, in not so many words, that Mr. Trump had been confused.CBS News' Rebecca Kaplan reports Mr. Trump will meet with House Republicans on Capitol Hill Tuesday afternoon. The campaign-season tumult erupted as GOP leaders put finishing touches on a pair of Republican bills: a hard-right proposal and a middle-ground plan negotiated by the party's conservative and moderate wings, with White House input. Only the compromise bill would open a door to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children, and reduce the separation of children from their parents when families are detained crossing the border — a practice that has drawn bipartisan … [Read more...] about White House says Trump supports “moderate” GOP immigration bill after confusion
