Sondland was set to testify behind closed doors before the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight committees as part of the House impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump and Ukraine . Lawmakers were eager to press him about text messages he exchanged related to Trump's July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the freezing of foreign aid to Ukraine that cut to the heart of the Democrats' impeachment probe. Sondland has been a player in Republican politics for a number of years but wasn't always a Trump supporter. The media and our legislators lead in the fight for intolerance and discrimination. It begs the question why they want to set our country back decades. Political tribalism is the root of racism. In spite of that fact, it is Trump and his supporters who are seen as the racists. We will only listen to what we want to hear. We re-count the bits that back up our claims— who cares if it is true. Just turn on CNN or MSNBC. Day in and day out, they tout the same doomsday hyperbole. If we are lucky, we might get half of the story. Then tune in to Fox news. You will be hard-pressed to hear much more than praise — let alone the whole picture. Both feed us a blend of distorted characterizations and accurate accounts. They may not state outright that all undocumented immigrants are violent criminals, but it is implied. As far as Trump supporters are concerned, that is not the point; they did come to the U.S. illegally. That is against the law. By nature, humans want fairness. They want … [Read more...] about Are Trump supporters racist? Ask his diverse set of supporters.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—One of the first things Joe Bryant did when I walked into his home was hand me his Republican Party membership card. “I wanted to show you my bonafides,” he said, before walking me over to his living room, where we sat and talked for nearly hour. He had to tell me why he could not bear casting a ballot for former Congressman Ron DeSantis and will vote for Andrew Gillum. Lori Gaglione, a disabilities rights lawyer who lives in Atlantic Beach, joined us. A few days earlier, I had overheard Gaglione and a few friends at a Gillum event in downtown Jacksonville talking about the changing political landscape in Atlantic Beach and other beach communities. She introduced me to Bryant to illustrate her point. “Ron DeSantis is a Trump flaky,” Bryant told me. “I respect his service to the country. He went to Yale. He went to Harvard. You’ve got to be pretty smart. But he’s a “I’m with Trump, anything he says goes … [Read more...] about Frustrated With Trump, Some Florida Republicans Throw Support Behind Andrew Gillum

Because of her Republican opponents — Joe Kaufman, 48, who is white, and Carlos Reyes, 59, who is Hispanic — Spalding thought it was smart to say, “They are not going to vote for an old white man in the certain communities. That’s a fact.” The audience gasped but she continued: “It doesn’t matter. I don’t care what you say.” Watch Spalding destroy her sunken place political career below: Now, her fellow Republicans have turned on her. That’s according to Mike Hill, a former state representative running to return to the Legislature in the conservative stronghold, who took to Facebook Live this week with a giant replica of the Hollywood Walk of Fame plaque. In the video, Hill, a black Republican, stands in front of a Confederate monument in downtown Pensacola and vows to “bring the Trump Hollywood star” to “the first settlement in America.” Trump’s sidewalk star —- which has been destroyed twice —- probably isn’t going anywhere, but the West Hollywood City Council reportedly passed a unanimous resolution this month calling for the onetime reality-show host’s marker to be permanently removed. The video of Hill —- who’s captured … [Read more...] about Florida House candidate wants to bring Trump’s Hollywood star to Pensacola
