POLITICS 06/23/2018 08:00 am ET Tommy Ewing-Brown initially refused to serve a group of Trump supporters a week before the election. By Arthur Delaney WASHINGTON ― It was about a week before the 2016 election, and Tommy Ewing-Brown had several angry Donald Trump supporters on the other side of the bar where he worked with their cellphone cameras pointed at him. “So you’re not going to let us come in here and have a drink because you don’t like Trump?” one of them said. “Yes,” Ewing-Brown told them. “I don’t like racist bigots.” The scene foreshadowed the heckling several Trump administration officials received in D.C. restaurants this week. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s dinner at a Mexican restaurant was ruined when a group of protesters stormed the restaurant, yelling about her agency’s policy of separating migrant children from their parents. FORT HANCOCK, Texas — Donald Trump didn’t carry many parts of Texas’ heavily Democratic areas along the border with Mexico, but he won remote Hudspeth County thanks to people like Terry Rose. And the 71-year-old mechanic saw the longest shutdown in U.S. history as a campaign promise kept. “I want less government. That’s what we’re getting,” said Rose, who was having lunch with a group of friends in Fort Hancock, an enclave with fields of cotton, alfalfa and chili peppers just across the border from El Porvenir, Mexico. “I’m understanding about federal employees, but if you’re ‘non-essential’ it’s hard to feel too badly for you.” The shutdown — which lasted 35 days and ended Friday with Trump agreeing to fund the government for three weeks — did dramatically shrink the size of government at least temporarily. Funding was cut off for nine of the 15 Cabinet-level departments and about 800,000 … [Read more...] about Some Trump supporters cheer the shutdown, predict re-election

A Donald Trump -backed candidate has come under fire for warning voters in Florida not to 'monkey this up' by electing his rival, who is black. Republican US Congressman Ron DeSantis, a staunch supporter of the president, was blasted for his alleged racist comments about Democrat Andrew Gillum. Gillum scored a surprise victory in Tuesday's Democratic primary for one the United States' most competitive races for governor. If the 39-year-old Tallahassee mayor wins the November 6 election, he would become the most populous US swing state's first black governor. DeSantis, the GOP nominee in the gubernatorial election, made the controversial comments in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday. Branding Gillum "an articulate" spokesman for far-left views, he said: "The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases." Words like "monkey" or "ape" have been used to demean African-Americans and calling a black man "articulate" … [Read more...] about Trump-backed candidate warns voters don’t ‘monkey this up’ and elect black rival
Eight months before the company that owns the National Enquirer paid $150,000 to a former Playboy Playmate who claimed she’d had an affair with Donald Trump, the tabloid’s parent made a $30,000 payment to a less famous individual: a former doorman at one of the real estate mogul’s New York City buildings. As it did with the ex-Playmate, the Enquirer signed the ex-doorman to a contract that effectively prevented him from going public with a juicy tale that might hurt Trump’s campaign for president. The payout to the former Playmate, Karen McDougal, stayed a secret until The Wall Street Journal published a story about it days before Election Day. Since then curiosity about that deal has spawned intense media coverage and, this week, helped prompt the FBI to raid the hotel room and offices of Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. The story of the ex-doorman, Dino Sajudin, hasn’t been told until now. The Associated Press confirmed the details of the … [Read more...] about $30,000 rumor?
