BOULDER — McKinley Wright IV is no doubt shouldering the bulk of the leadership and scoring responsibility for Colorado basketball early in the season. But the sophomore point guard is also mature enough to realize the Buffs won’t be able to rise to the top of the Pac-12 come the new year without the continued evolution of an array of other players. “My job as the point guard of this team is to get everybody involved, and I know I’m surrounded by a ton of great players,” Wright said. “Once I get them the ball, my stuff will come, but I’m not worried about myself right now … I’m focused on getting more comfortable in just trusting my teammates.” Wright’s sentiment was evident in another Colorado victory on Tuesday as the Buffs improved to 6-1 with a 82-58 rout of South Dakota. In the win over the Coyotes at the CU Events Center, the Buffs — with a roster full of intriguing story lines — got major … [Read more...] about With roster full of evolving complementary players, CU Buffs basketball improves to 6-1 in rout of South Dakota
(Reuters) - A South Dakota prisoner was executed on Monday for killing a prison guard in a botched escape attempt seven years ago, marking the first state-mandated killing in South Dakota since 2012, a state corrections official said. Rodney Berget, 56, was put to death by lethal injection after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a request by attorney Juliet Yackel to stay the execution on grounds Berget was intellectually disabled and protected from capital punishment. Berget was executed for killing prison guard Ronald Johnson with a pipe in the 2011 bid to escape from the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls, said Department of Corrections spokesman Michael Winder in an email. “Today the state of South Dakota violated the U.S. Constitution when it executed Rodney Berget,” Yackel said in a phone interview. “Rodney is someone who the state itself deemed intellectually disabled over 40 years ago.” Among those who called on the Supreme Court to halt … [Read more...] about South Dakota executes inmate who killed prison guard
While Uber may still not even be operating in the state of South Dakota, that didn't stop the state from getting its piece of the Uber data breach settlement pie. The settlement stems from a 2016 data breach where hackers stole private information for 600,000 Uber drivers, then ransomed that information back to the company. Unfortunately for the company, not disclosing the data breach until 2017 led to public outrage, and, not to mention, several states filing lawsuits resulting in the $148 million settlement. SD Drivers Get No Pie Interestingly, though Uber hasn't moved into South Dakota yet, the state still had 71 Uber drivers living there whose data was compromised in the 2016 breach. Pursuant to state law, those data breaches needed to be disclosed within 60 days. And though there were less than 100 Uber drivers in the state subject to the breach, the state's will receive $573,000. South Dakota law imposes civil penalties of $2,000 per "deceptive act" as well as a $10K per … [Read more...] about South Dakota Gets $500K+ in Uber Data Breach Settlement
Dalvin Brown USA TODAY Published 9:12 p.m. UTC Jul 13, 2018 There's a lot to consider when selecting the best place to spend your golden years. But have you considered going South? South Dakota, that is. A new report from Bankrate.com analyzed factors like cost of living, tax burden, weather, crime and health care quality that people must weigh when determining a place to retire. South Dakota came out on top with the best overall score. The landlocked state that's home to Mount Rushmore placed first in well-being, second in taxes, 10th in cultural vitality and 12th in health care quality. Weather was the only category it didn't fare well in (38th). “Yes, South Dakotans enjoy a low tax burden, but they are also more satisfied with their lives than anyone else," said Taylor Tepper, an analyst at Bankrate.com. Faring the worst was New York, landing in the bottom 10 in three … [Read more...] about Where is the best state to retire? Have you thought of South Dakota?
