Swedish gear maker Ericsson Monday said that it will set up a new R&D site in France by early 2020 hiring 300 employees to push 5G progress across Europe. The telecom equipment maker will set up an initial unit at its offices in Massy, France, part of Paris-Saclay--one of Europe’s largest innovation zones. "The site will focus initially on 5G software development and security, benefitting the global 5G ecosystem and leveraging on our collaboration with French customers, " said the vendor in an official statement. The initiative will provide access to a competence pool and foster industry and academic collaborations, it added. The equipment player currently employs 15,000 engineers in Europe which is 60% of its total R&D staff and has 18 R&D centers in Europe including Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Sweden.
