SIMON Mayo is in talks to quit BBC Radio 2 because he is furious about being lumbered with Jo Whiley on his drivetime show by PC bosses. The Sun can reveal the star DJ is negotiating with Global Radio about joining easy listening station Smooth Radio in a mega money deal. Global hopes to turn Smooth, which features presenters including Kate Garraway and Myleene Klass, into a national network if changes to radio regulation are introduced by Ofcom later this year. But the move would spark panic at the Beeb as the award-winning presenter would become the third household name to quit BBC radio stations, following Eddie Mair’s decision to jump ship to LBC and Chris Evans’ move to Virgin Radio’s breakfast show. Several radio broadcasters will go silent from 7:30 to 12:00 on October 6 and 7 as telecommunications authorities will be carrying out restoration of the anti-corrosion layer of metallic structures of the Yerevan TV Tower. As reported earlier, the ministry of transportation, communication and information technologies said that the repainting works of the iconic 308-meter high Yerevan TV tower will commence September 19. The ministry told ARMENPRESS that the tower will be repainted in its original red-white colors – a standard requirement from aviation authorities. The tower has been dominating the Yerevan skyline since 1977. Drivers, as well as passersby, are urged to maintain distance from nearby areas from 07:30 to 18:00 to avoid possible paint residue. Former SAfm radio personality Rowena Baird succumbed to her battle with colon cancer on Friday. Tributes of condolences for the seasoned broadcaster soon hit social media after the SAfm shared the news on Twitter. According to the station, Baird's sister confirmed that she passed away on Friday morning. Former SAfm senior presenter on Morning Talk, Rowena Baird, has passed away.
