With the Pixel 3 XL, Google is finally catching up to modern smartphone design, but even so, its final design will still prove to be polarizing with fans. To get a clear understanding about the dynamic, you just have to compare it to the Pixel 2 XL. Google adopted the notch with the Pixel 3 XL and cranked it up to the max. In its defense, it houses two cameras, but it is quite an eye sore. However, Google did throw in a key feature fans have been asking for—wireless charging. This is possible through the new glass back, though Google added a two tone finish to keep the Pixel staple alive. Though only one year-old, the Pixel 2 XL looks quite outdated already. Its big bezels aren’t the norm for flagship devices even though they house dual-stereo speakers, and its overall design leaves a lot to be desired, specifically the coating that hides the premium feel of the aluminum body. Specs wise, the changes are less radical between the Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 3 XL. You can check out … [Read more...] about Pixel 3 XL vs. Pixel 2 XL: Google Joins the Notch Club
Google has taken some very odd steps with its miniature Pixel models. The first borrowed just about every design element and feature from the bigger model, but with the second generation it changed course keeping big bezels on the smaller model while the bigger XL version got reduced ones. With the Pixel 3, Google took another odd step in essentially adding the display design of the Pixel 2 XL into a smaller body. However, we’re not complaining about it because at least you don’t get the ugly notch. So, let’s examine how the Pixel 3 and Pixel 2 compare against each other. Going from the Pixel to the Pixel 2 felt like an incremental step, but going from the Pixel 2 to the Pixel 3 Google lets it be known it is serious about its smartphones and it’s listening to user feedback. The chunky bezels are gone, as is the all-aluminum body that finally adds wireless charging to the Pixel line. Under the hood, the improvements are a little less exciting. The processor … [Read more...] about Pixel 3 vs. Pixel 2: What’s Changed With Google’s Small Flagship?
Google unveiled the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL during the “Made by Google” event in New York today and they come with improved specs over last year’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL. If the newest smartphones from Google are not tempting you, then perhaps you would go for a discounted Pixel 2XL. On the Canadian Google Store, the company has slashed the price of the Android-powered device from $1,159 to $899 CAD unlocked. Certainly, this is something to consider. The Pixel 2, however, is “Out of Stock.” The Google Pixel 2 XL features a 6-inch 1,440 x 2,880 pixel resolution display with Snapdragon 835 chipset and 4GB of RAM. By Malcolm Owen Monday, October 08, 2018, 06:29 am PT (09:29 am ET) YouTube personality Jonathan Morrison has used "Beautygate" to trick members of his audience to highlight bias against Apple's camera, by receiving compliments on social media for self portraits claimed to have been taken on the Google Pixel 2, but were in fact taken on the iPhone XS Max. Capitalizing on the current uproar over "Beautygate," a phenomena with the iPhone XS and XS Max's front-facing camera that makes it appear there is aggressive skin smoothing filters applied to a self portrait, Jonathan Morrison took to Twitter and Instagram to share self portraits he claimed were taken on a different smartphone: the Google Pixel 2. The two images depicted Morrison in a vehicle and in a studio, with different lighting effects for each. While the Pixel 2 is identified as the smartphone that "took" the shots, there is no mention of Beautygate, iPhone, or other hardware by Morrison in any accompanying text, … [Read more...] about YouTuber trolls Twitter in “Beautygate” sting using iPhone XS Max photos identified as Pixel 2 shots
Verizon has stopped selling the Pixel 2 on the eve of the Pixel 3 unveiling. First reported by DroidLife, Verizon was selling the Pixel 2 as recently as Tuesday, but with Google holding an event next week, the carrier stopped selling Google’s flagship. However, this doesn’t mark the death of the Pixel 2 just yet, as Google is still selling the device. We should note the bigger Pixel 2 XL is still available through Verizon (and Google), but it’s unclear how much longer it’ll be available for with the Pixel 3 and 3 XL on the horizon. This leads to the bigger question: Will Google continue to sell the Pixel 2 and 2 XL after their successors hit the market? Most smartphone makers sell older models at a discounted price to provide customers with an affordable option, but Google didn’t adopt this tactic when it launched the Pixel 2, discontinuing the first Pixel right away. The Pixel 2 may be in for a similar fate. Google is holding an event on October 9 … [Read more...] about Verizon Stops Selling Pixel 2 with Pixel 3 on the Horizon
