Nokia made some noise at the IFA 2019 conference in Berlin, Germany by launching five new phones, one of which is the Nokia 6.2. This is the successor of the Nokia 6.1 series and will soon be coming to India as well. While that happens, we got our hands on the device and used it for a while. The handset has a global average price of EUR 199, which roughly means around Rs 16,000 and comes in two colours Ceramic Black and Ice. In our limited time spent with the smartphone, here are our initial thoughts on the design of the handset, features and specifications. Nokia 6.2 is definitely an upgrade over the 6.1 series and other similar designed Nokia smartphones. The screen is bigger, the notch is smaller and the camera bump is circular instead of a capsule-shaped one seen on Nokia 6.1. Although it could be challenging to work single-handedly on this device, it does deliver a good grip. HMD Global says that Nokia 6.2 is made using a polymer composite that seems like glass but is actually … [Read more...] about Nokia 6.2: First impressions
Nokia 8 2 specifications
With several smartphone makers focussing heavily on the mid-range segment, it is nothing but obvious for HMD to update its mid-range smartphone segment as well. And at IFA 2019 Berlin it did exactly that with the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2. We have already talked about Nokia 6.2 and while it definitely seems like an update over its predecessors, Nokia 7.2 is also not far when it comes to ‘upgrades’. HMD claims to have made a better and tight integration of Zeiss with the handset while improving the screen, camera specs and the battery as per the regular upgrade cycle. The design and in-hand feel of the Nokia 7.2 is not the same as Nokia 7.1 though. It certainly seems more premium when held. The 6.3-inch FHD+ PureDisplay is a neat addition here. The screen can get bright enough and might be one of the good LCD screens we’ve seen on an Android phone yet. However, we’ll take a call in our review. Interestingly, HMD thinks that using a rather older Qualcomm … [Read more...] about Nokia 7.2 quick review: Impressive looks

NEW DELHI: Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia is in talks with Indian telcos for supply deals around their respective 4G network expansion in rural areas, having already secured 13% more contracts in the first half of 2019 compared with a year earlier, its top official in the country said. “Our discussions are happening with telcos for rural expansion which is in line with the DoT’s plan to connect over 40,000 villages by 2022. All telcos are now looking to expand revenue and user bases, hence eyes on rural expansion…this will happen before commercial 5G rollout,” Sanjay Malik, head of Nokia India, told ET. Malik said that despite the ongoing financial stress in the telecom industry, Nokia has managed to secure 61 new contracts from telcos, internet service providers (ISPs), cable operators and enterprises in the first half of 2019 as compared to 54 contracts in the first half of 2018. The executive added that 4G investments by telcos to build capacity and … [Read more...] about Nokia in talks with Indian telcos for rural 4G expansion
Handle with care It’s Apple’s big day in the spotlight with their annual WWDC developers event, but it’s Microsoft’s latest acquisition that’s making headlines. Redmond confirmed today that it will acquire GitHub, a locus for computer software developers, coders, and even whole companies working on and testing super-technical projects. Think of it as a sort of super-nerdy Dropbox. Satya Nadella and company reportedly dropped $7.5 billion on the deal, even though GitHub was valued at only about $2 billion just three years ago. So what changed? For one, Microsoft’s GitHub competitor, Codeplex, was a non-starter and died late last year, and Microsoft is currently one of the largest users of GitHub, so it kind of makes sense. Some GitHub users have said the deal is the beginning of the end of GitHub, but Satya Nadella says they will work to preserve its geek cred and be “stewards” of the hallowed service, which is just over 10 years old. … [Read more...] about Microsoft puts GitHub in its cart. Will it suffer same fate as Skype and Nokia?
