On-loan goalkeeper Matt Macey became Plymouth Argyle’s 11th summer signing when he completed his move from Arsenal and the fifth from a top Premier League club. While none of those additions to the Pilgrims’ squad have been established players it is a striking pattern of recruitment. It is a considerable change of approach from manager Derek Adams compared to previous transfer windows. Adams has signed two players apiece from Arsenal and Everton and one from Premier League champions Manchester City. All of them are aged between 21 and 23 and have only a few first team appearances between them. They are at the stage of their careers now where they have to start making their mark at senior level, and Argyle are giving them that opportunity. SINGAPORE: Singaporean footballer Benjamin Davis has signed the first professional deal of his career with newly promoted Premier League club Fulham FC. Benjamin, 17, joined Fulham on a two-year scholarship deal in July last year. However, his performances for the Fulham Under-18 side were so impressive that the club decided to hand him a new deal. He is the first Singaporean to sign a professional contract with a top-tier English club. In an announcement on the club website on Friday (Jul 13), Fulham said that the midfielder "accrued a pass accuracy of over 90 per cent" for the U-18s. "I was so happy and then excited. I really didn't expect it as I am still in the first year of my two-year scholarship deal although I did have a good second half of the season," the teenager said of his reaction when he learned that the club was offering him a deal. The recently concluded Premier League season saw Manchester City break all type of records on route to their third title this decade. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Arsenal missed out on Champions League places and all three promoted teams survived for another season. In this two-part article I will select the best player from each of the 20 teams. Obviously, there were some easy picks but there were some difficult ones as well – I faced particular difficulty with Everton and West Brom.
