Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United have no chance of winning the Premier League title. Manchester United begin their campaign at home to Chelsea on Sunday with Frank Lampard in charge for the first time for the visitors. The Red Devils finished in sixth last season and face a tough task to make the top four this season. And Mourinho has written off his former club, along with their first opponents and Arsenal . On his punditry debut for Sky Sports, Mourinho was asked how many sides can win the title. "Four. Manchester City , Tottenham , Liverpool and Manchester City B team," Mourinho responded. "Today, even if one team plays magnificently or has a fantastic result, I don't believe the title is possible." Gary Neville added: "Manchester United can't win the title and I don't think Chelsea can either. "I think United would snap your hands off now if you offered them fourth. I think they are in a battle with Chelsea and Arsenal for that position. "I think Tottenham, Liverpool … [Read more...] about Mourinho names four teams who can win Premier League title

Poor performances and background issues led Jose Mourinho to lose his job in December when the Old Trafford giants surprisingly decided to turn to the fan favourite for the remainder of the season. Solskjaer has confounded the doubters by winning nine of his first 10 matches in all competitions and being named January’s Barclays manager of the month – the first United boss to win the award since Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012. Now the bookmakers’ favourite to take the job on a permanent basis rather than return to Molde, the Norwegian says he already has a “picture of how I think this Man United team will look in a couple of years”. Solskjaer has put those views across to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who cannot fail to be impressed by the caretaker’s work and belief that United will soon go from a top-four fight to genuine title challengers. “I think we’re too far behind this year, obviously,” he said of this year’s … [Read more...] about Solskjaer believes United can challenge for Premier League title in two years
The lead-up to Liverpool’s crunch meeting with Napoli has been dominated by talk of the need for another special Anfield night. The Reds go into this evening’s fixture knowing that only a 1-0 in their favour or any win by a two-goal margin or more will take them into the knockout stages of the Champions League. And Jurgen Klopp has taken up the familiar role of tubthumper-in-chief in a bid to ensure his players have all the support they can get in their bid to realise that aim. Speaking ahead of the game, he said: "We were not good in Napoli so the first thing we want to do is show that we are better than how we played there. "Again, we are going to ask for Anfield and call on the fans to help us - it is a really massive game. "It would be really cool if the crowd was on its feet, it's a big one and our people know that - I know they will already be warming up. "We know how big the atmosphere can be and hopefully we see that. "We did everything we could to qualify for this … [Read more...] about Is Liverpool’s Premier League title bid also on the line against Napoli?
Where there was chaos there now appears to be order. Where there was a divided Premier League of a ‘Big Six’ and 14 others fighting for their lives there now appears to be even more stratification. After 15 league games four clear mini-leagues within a league have emerged. The table is stark and, beyond movement within those four leagues, unlikely to change even with just over two thirds of the fixtures still to go. The battle-lines are drawn and are pronounced. It is to Liverpool’s credit that Manchester City have not reduced one of those leagues to being their own. The fact that only six teams in the 26-year history of the Premier League have ever made a better start to a season than Liverpool is remarkable given those others all, obviously, were top. Jurgen Klopp’s side are two points behind City with the sense that they are clinging on before the inevitable happens. If those two are going for the title then the other three leagues can quickly be defined. … [Read more...] about How the Premier League became four mini-leagues with just Liverpool and Man City in title race
After storming to the Premier League title last season, Manchester City are now looking to make history by becoming the first team to retain the trophy in the last decade. Pep Guardiola's side have begun their defence in staggering form and are just two points off the electric pace they set last season. However, the Blues have faced stiffer competition from their domestic rivals this season, with Liverpool and Chelsea both hot on their tails. But just what have City's title rivals said about their chances in the Premier League this season? Liverpool Jurgen Klopp "They are so strong. This team together with the club, the money they have and this manager is exceptional. It is a good match, a good combination. "It makes them the biggest force at the moment - together with PSG - in world football. "We have to battle and fight with them for different things in the league and maybe in the Champions League at one point if it comes to that again." Virgil van Dijk "They are the champions and … [Read more...] about What Premier League title rivals have been saying about Man City this season
