If os noh sel yu, trit noh go bai yu. Last week I launched a GoFundMe to raise funds to bring local content stories to national TV and online. We are halfway to our goal in the first week, thanks to generous donations from the community. Everyone has a purpose, and we must find that purpose. For many years I wondered why of all the places in the world I was born in Sierra Leone. Why here? Why a place whose near and recent history robs me of my dignity. I have always felt Sierra Leone was shortchanging me. It owed me ‘development’. I felt Sierra Leone owed me peace. It owed me job opportunities and gender equality. Sierra Leone owed me. Feeling that the debt would not be paid I moved to Ghana. I was going to focus on myself and my growth. I was going to focus on making money and building a business. Sierra Leone was not my responsibility. No to me born Salone. That was 2012. Two years after that Ebola struck. Then iron ore prices … [Read more...] about If os noh sel yu, trit noh go bai yu.

Microsoft never sleeps. Even before the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) started to roll out, the company began work on the next major update to Windows 10, due to be released next spring. On the latest episode of Recode Decode, journalist and Pop-Up Magazine co-founder Evan Ratliff spoke with Recode’s Kara Swisher about his new book, The Mastermind: Drugs, Empire, Murder, Betrayal. It traces the rise and fall of Paul Le Roux, a programmer-turned-drug kingpin who used his tech savvy to avoid capture for many years. Early in his illegal exploits from his base in the Philippines, he created a network of “rogue pharmacies” for distributing painkillers to buyers, all purchased online as easily as an Amazon transaction. “He created his own domain registrar, like GoDaddy or Network Solutions, got it approved by ICANN as the only domain registrar in the Philippines, and then used it exclusively to generate thousands and thousands of domains for himself,” Ratliff said. “So if you took them down, he could just make a thousand more that day. ... He was like a vertically integrated criminal business.” Le Roux’s digital hustle … [Read more...] about The Mastermind author Evan Ratliff explains how tech enabled a drug kingpin
Just about any account you own on the internet is prone to being hacked, and one of the easiest ways to add an extra layer of security is to enable two-factor authentication. Also known as two-step verification or 2FA, the process gives web services secondary access to the account owner (you!) in order to verify a login attempt. Typically, this involves a phone number and / or an email address. While 2FA doesn’t totally cloak you from potential hackers, it is an important step in preventing your account from being accessed by unauthorized users. Here’s how to enable 2FA on your accounts across the web. Editor’s note, January 23rd, 2019: If you own a Nest camera, you might want to activate 2FA right away. There has been a recent string of “hacks” where existing, compromised passwords are being reused to scare Nest Cam owners. We’re resurfacing this how-to today with instructions on how to do that. Note that other brands of cameras do not currently … [Read more...] about How to set up two-factor authentication on all your online accounts
December 2, 2018 by ieyenews Leave a Comment 0 0 By ANDRA ZAHARIA SECURITY EVANGELIST From Heimdal Security When your alarm goes off in the morning, what’s the first thing you check? Most people will tap on one of two apps: their email app or their go-to social media account. You probably can’t even remember what your morning routine looked like before this. I know I can’t. For most of us (myself included), email is our digital home. That’s where we keep our contacts for the people we love and for the people we work with. It’s where we hoard newsletters subscriptions and wishlists, pictures and documents, love and hate digital letters and SO much more. So no matter what click-bait titles tell you, email is not dead. Not at all! In fact, people all over the world rely on email for a big chunk of their communication. In 2015, 205 billion emails travelled from outbox to inbox every single day (Radicati Group research). This is how many email accounts … [Read more...] about The complete guide to email security
