Avengers: Endgame is just $16 million shy of crossing the $2.7 billion mark at the worldwide box office, and roughly $100 million short of beating Avatar’s all-time record as the highest grossing film ever.Forbes reports that the superhero epic stands at $2.686 million after its fifth weekend. It became only the second film in history to cross $800 million at the US box office, but will not be able to beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ record of $937 million. Whether it can cross Avatar’s record remains ‘a coin toss’, the report adds, predicting a final total of around $2.79 billion for Endgame (higher than Avatar).Adjusted for inflation, Endgame is currently at the number 19 spot on the rankings, ahead of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Lion King. If it plays like Avengers: Infinity War, Forbes says, the film will make $870 million all said and done, which is more than Avatar’s inflation-adjusted … [Read more...] about Avengers Endgame vs Avatar box office: Marvel epic needs just $102 million to beat James Cameron film
Last weekend gave the summer box office a much-needed jolt, as Toy Story 4 brought in a huge $120.9 million during its opening frame. With a number like that, even with a steep drop, it's going to be tough for other titles to compete, but don't blame anyone for trying. Warner Bros. and New Line are set to unleash the latest chapter of The Conjuring universe, Annabelle Comes Home and Universal will be releasing Yesterday, which is driven by the music of The Beatles. Disney and Marvel are also re-releasing Avengers: Endgame with some bonus content in an attempt to get a little closer to Avatar's record. Toy Story 4 will keep its box office crown in its second weekend, and easily we might add. Pixar and Disney have scored another hit. Director Josh Cooley has managed to exceed expectations with both critics and moviegoers. That has led to great word of mouth and will translate to an excellent second weekend take for the animated sequel. Expect to see a drop off of less than 50 percent, … [Read more...] about Can Annabelle Scare Toy Story 4 Away from the Top of the Box Office?
NEW YORK (AP) — “Frozen 2” blanketed multiplexes for the third straight weekend, continuing its reign at No. 1 with $34.7 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday. The Walt Disney Co. animated sequel has already grossed $919.7 million worldwide. It will soon become the sixth Disney release this year to cross $1 billion, a record sure to grow to seven once “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” hits theaters later this month. Early next week, Disney will cross $10 billion at the global box office this year. But the weekend overall at the box office was yet another disappointing one for the movie industry. A handful of under-performing releases and a relatively thin wide-release schedule hasn’t helped the 5.6% slide in domestic ticket sales from last year, according to data firm Comscore. This weekend produced an outright flop in “Playmobil: The Movie,” the week’s only new wide release. The STX Films release was never … [Read more...] about ‘Frozen 2’ Leads Box Office Again; ‘Playmobil’ Flops
