By: Dave Johnson, Executive Vice President-IT Divison, Schneider Electric Once upon a time, becoming a billion-dollar business was a unique feat. IBM, a global brand formed in 1911, took over 50 years until 1957 to reach over a billion dollars in revenue. By then it had survived two world wars, pioneered computing and artificial intelligence, and was growing in leaps and bounds as it emerged as the world’s leading technology company. The internet changed that sort of timescale, setting a new level of expectation altogether. As business transformed and globalized, technology has provided the platform on which the stuff of dreams has been built by imaginative entrepreneurs. Data Center Today, when market capitalization and valuation are perhaps more prestigious than revenue, these companies offer a range of services from ride sharing, online shopping and mobile messaging to fantasy sports and recipes with ingredients to your door. Each has its genesis in the last six years … [Read more...] about Can Your Data Center Handle the Next Big Idea?

By: Manas Ganguly,Founder, Brightsandz CleanTech World population is moving towards innovation backed by technology. All technology giants and start up companies are leading the way with investments and deployments in major technologies such as Blockchain, Automation, AI, IoT among others. The advent of such technologies are changing the entire way of communicating and retrieving information from wireless personal and portable handheld terminals. The emerging trend of such technological advancements is giving rise to an increased data consumption and internet dependency. Artificial Intelligence, IoT and other connected devices require high data usage and networks due to their regular transmission of small amount of data. Gigantic data networks are supported by a mind-buzzing infrastructure of servers – computer rooms, server rooms and data centers. India is one of the key support systems to this equation and is graduating to become the data centre capital of the … [Read more...] about Electromagnetic Interference in Data Centers: Risks Involved and Its Impact on Information Security

Enabling new lower levels of total cost of ownership (TCO) for cloud and enterprise customers, Western Digital Corporation has introduced the Ultrastar DC HC530 hard drive – at 14TB, no other CMR (conventional magnetic recording) hard drive in the industry offers a higher capacity. The breadth and depth of big data is driving the universal need for higher capacities across a broad spectrum of applications and workloads. Built on Western Digital’s fifth-generation HelioSeal technology, the Ultrastar DC HC530 drive is designed for public and private cloud environments where storage density, watt/TB and $/TB are critical parameters for creating the most cost-efficient infrastructure. The data explosion caused by big data, IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, rich content and fast data applications is challenging hyperscale cloud data centers and enterprises to efficiently build massive petabyte-scale infrastructures. This ability to cost-effectively scale-up or … [Read more...] about WD Continues To Drive Capacity And Improve TCO For Cloud And Enterprise Data Centers
Intel Corp beat earnings expectations for the first quarter and raised its full-year revenue and profit forecasts on Thursday, driven by higher demand for chips from data centers and personal computers. Shares of the Santa Clara, California-based chipmaker rose 8 percent to $57.29 in after-market trading after the chipmaker said it expects full-year revenue of $67.5 billion, up $2.5 billion from its prior guidance. Intel has been focused on transforming itself from a supplier of personal computers to a maker of chips for growing data center business and newer areas such as driverless cars and artificial intelligence. That shift appeared to be taking hold as revenues for Intel’s data center business accounted for almost half of the company’s revenue in the first quarter, the highest proportion ever. Intel said fresh demand for applications such as artificial intelligence fueled the data center business. “The strength of Intel’s business underscores my confidence … [Read more...] about Intel raises full-year forecasts on demand for data center chips
