The Mapledale Party House was the premier destination for Rochesterians to, well, party, for nearly three decades. Revelers regularly rang in the New Year by the hundreds at the Mapledale, the largest such facility locally until the Riverside Convention Center opened. Baseball fans annually flocked there for the Red Wings Welcome Home Dinner. Celebrities like Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Muhammad Ali dined at the Mapledale. Its 60-foot sign overlooking Interstate 490 was a landmark for motorists that rattled off the time, temperature and names of wedding parties. Owner Vince Fedele opened the Mapledale at 1020 Maple St. in northwest Rochester in 1964. A novice host, Fedele wound up serving nearly as many meals in a year as there were people who lived in the city. The discovery of 61 bats in stone crevices and arches of a balcony at Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland has revealed previously unknown information about the species’ hibernation habits, the Trust said. Seaton Delaval Hall was a grand 18th century baroque “party” house belonging to the flamboyant Delaval family, hosting their costume balls, elaborate practical jokes and spectacular theatrical productions. The hall, which was partially destroyed by fire in 1822, was bought in 2009 by the National Trust, which undertook much-needed conservation work.
