The Hans Christian Andersen Award Committee has announced three winners of this year’s global Hans Christian Andersen Award, including Vietnam’s renowned children’s book translator Tran Thi Minh Tam. The awarding ceremony will be held on April 3 in the celebrated Danish poet’s native town of Odense. Translator Tran Thi Minh Tam Tam has translated Hans Christian Andersen fairytales for Vietnamese children and after 20 years with the work, in 2003, she published 88 Andersen fairytales, then later, it was updated to 100 fairytales. The book has been re-printed 16 times and the latest edition will be published this year. Besides Tam, the two other award-winners are Dr. Phil. At the ceremony (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – The management board of the Vietnam Seventh-day Adventist Church held a ceremony to start its first academic year for a batch of students of its Christian Bible College in Ho Chi Minh City on December 17. Addressing the event, Pastor Tran Thanh Truyen, head of the church, said that upon receiving permission from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs on the establishment of the school for its followers in August 2017, the church has spared no efforts in preparing for its operation. The school’s graduates are hoped to become the country’s outstanding citizens and missionaries, pastors, as well as leading officials of the Church, he noted. The school provides four-year and two-year training programmes. Its first batch for the 2018-2022 programme attracted 17 students across the country. No one attends an event, Christian or otherwise, without anticipation and expectations. The spectrum is as broad as attendees who anticipate all the great, memorable moments of the event, to some who are hoping for a short-and-sweet occasion that provides a quick exit.
