Art Stapleton NFL writer Published 12:51 PM EST Dec 14, 2018 Odell Beckham Jr. is still out for the New York Giants. A quad injury will cause Beckham to miss Sunday's home game against the Tennessee Titans, the second consecutive game he'll have to miss. Giants coach Pat Shurmur said there were no setbacks with Beckham's injury, saying, "He just can't go." Beckham was leg whipped on the last play of the Eagles game on Nov. 25, but played through the overtime victory over the Bears the following week. He was practicing last week until he was limited toward the end of that week. After being examined, he was told to stay home when the team left for last Sunday's game at Washington, which turned out to be the Giants' most convincing win in its streak of four victories in five games. Beckham was limited in practice on Wednesday. Check back here for more on this story. Art Stapleton NFL writer Published 11:22 PM EST Dec 2, 2018 EAST RUTHERFORD - The fan base feared embarrassment. Remember last season when the Los Angeles Rams, then a team on the come as a potential Super Bowl contender, rolled into MetLife Stadium in a game the New York Giants were viewed as underdogs greater than even Vegas odds makers believed. Sean McVay toyed with Ben McAdoo's Giants to the tune of 51-17 last November, by far the best team to visit the Meadowlands last season and show just how overmatched Big Blue was in every facet, and not just from a talent perspective, but resolve. Here's what McAdoo had to say after the game, one of the worst setbacks in franchise history that essentially chased season ticket holders to the market because of how the Giants quit on their home turf. "Keep looking. Keep fighting. That's what I ask of the players. That's what I ask of the coaches and that's what I'm going to do myself," the former Giants coach said … [Read more...] about NY Giants avoid embarrassment with upset win over Chicago Bears
Art Stapleton NFL writer Published 6:30 PM EST Nov 25, 2018 PHILADELPHIA - No excuses. This was a game the New York Giants could have won. In fact, it's a game they probably should have won. But they lost it, falling in Sunday's 25-22 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in far too familiar fashion when, for the second consecutive season, Jake Elliott booted a game-winning field goal in the closing seconds to send Big Blue back home with heartbreak. If you want to play the blame game, Giants coach Pat Shurmur deserves a lot of it. As good as his play calling was early, that's how bad it was in the second half. How does Saquon Barkley touch the football only five times in the second half - one of those coming with 10 seconds remaining - after what he did to the Eagles over the first two quarters? He was the best player on the field and the Eagles could not stop him, yet for whatever reason, Shurmur essentially froze him out and the rationale of spelling the 21-year-old Barkley did … [Read more...] about NY Giants have themselves to blame for Sunday’s dream-crushing loss
Art Stapleton NFL writer Published 6:34 PM EDT Oct 23, 2018 EAST RUTHERFORD - The somewhat surprising departure of Eli Apple via trade with the New Orleans Saints for a pair of future draft picks leaves one question that looms over the remainder of the players still inside the New York Giants' locker room. Who's next? Not that the Giants' parting ways with Apple comes as a major shock, even if he's been, for all intents and purposes, their second-best cornerback in the midst of another woeful campaign in which Big Blue has earned just about every part of its 1-6 record. But if the Giants have determined Apple isn't part of the future of the franchise - team brass must make difficult decisions that stretch across the entire roster, and that includes at quarterback with Eli Manning - then general manager Dave Gettleman needed to do what he did in dealing the 2016 first-round pick out of town. The compensation - a fourth-round pick in 2019 and a seventh-round pick in … [Read more...] about Eli Apple trade from NY Giants leaves question for rest: Who’s next?
Art Stapleton NFL writer Published 9:01 AM EDT Sep 24, 2018 HOUSTON — Odell Beckham Jr. could have gone in so many different directions with his answer to the question. What does Sunday's 27-22 victory over the Houston Texans say about this team? The New York Giants were in a good mood in the locker room. Things finally clicked on offense, the defense came up big when it counted and the performance itself felt like a page-turner, a result that would finally help this franchise move past the horrors from the past season. Beckham's response again spoke to just how much he has grown as a leader on this team with an understanding of how the puzzle must fit together in just about every facet. "It says we're 1-2," Beckham deadpanned. "We've gotta get some more wins, start putting them together, not get too far ahead of ourselves, it's just one game. Now we've got to start tacking on, build off this and keep it moving." It had been 630 days since Beckham and Sterling Shepard … [Read more...] about NY Giants: 5 takeaways from Sunday’s season-saving victory over Texans
