ANDY RUIZ JR splashed out a whopping £96,275 on a new Mercedes truck - despite his dad telling him to "stay humble" and stop buying cars. The Mexican, 30, was thrust into the global spotlight after dethroning Anthony Joshua to become heavyweight world champion in June. He is understood to have earned around £5million for the fight in New York. And now £783,275 of that has gone towards amassing a stunning car collection, ignoring his father's pleads. That fleet includes the new Merc, a Lamborghini Urus and two white Rolls-Royces. Ruiz Jr has also bought a car for his mother Felicitas, his dad a truck and spent £760,000 on a new house. But Andy Ruiz Sr was not happy with his son. After picking up one of the Rolls-Royces, he said: "I told him, 'Andy, this is your last car, don't buy any more.' "I said, if anything, buy a Rolls-Royce and rent it out, make money. You can make $30,000 a month on it." Ruiz Sr added to BBC Sport: "Like a father, I told him to stay humble - … [Read more...] about Andy Ruiz Jr splashes out £96k on Mercedes jeep after his dad orders him to ‘stay humble’ and stop buying new cars

With new grant program, Bay Area spreads electric cars to low-income drivers
Standing beside his new car, a 2016 Ford C-Max hybrid with an eggshell-white exterior, Ignacio Hernandez beams. Charge the electric battery and it glides for 200 miles, swooshing along the Interstate 880 and Interstate 580 freeways from Hernandez’s home in East Oakland to his job managing a Burger King in Dublin. It purrs so quietly that Hernandez barely hears the motor, and in the long run, it will save him money: His old car, a sputtering, 1996 Toyota Camry, cost thousands of dollars a year for gas and repairs. But purchasing a hybrid was unthinkable until Hernandez got a $9,500 grant from Bay Area Air Quality Management District, through a program that aims to make clean-air vehicles accessible to low-income Californians. “Definitely cost is one of the biggest barriers to getting people in these vehicles,” said Rebecca Fisher, a program manager at the district who is helping steer Clean Cars for All. Funded with state climate investments and money from a one-time … [Read more...] about With new grant program, Bay Area spreads electric cars to low-income drivers
Senators introduce bill for new online political ad disclosures
Story highlights New legislation comes from congressional investigations into Russia election meddling Sen. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, has joined Democrats backing the bill (CNN)A bipartisan trio of senators unveiled legislation Thursday that would place new disclosure requirements on political advertisements in an effort to combat the kind of election meddling that Russia engaged in during the 2016 election campaign. The bill from Democratic Sens. Mark Warner of Virginia and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota would require the same disclosure for online political ads that is currently in place on ads that appear on television and the radio. They said at a news conference Thursday that the legislation would update US laws so that online political ads had the same protections against foreign interference as traditional ads. "We need regulatory rules, a framework, that shields our elections from foreign money," Klobuchar said. "If a candidate or a cause buys an ad on TV, the … [Read more...] about Senators introduce bill for new online political ad disclosures
Andy Ruiz Jr’s mansion bought with the millions earned from beating Anthony Joshua includes a pool and tree house
ANDY RUIZ Jr splashed out some of the millions he earned from battering Anthony Joshua on a new mansion. The unified heavyweight world champion will put his titles on the line when he comes up against the Brit in Saudi Arabia on December 7. It's not known how much the Mexican champ paid for the property but it is believed to be in California, where he has lived for most of his life. There is a treehouse for the kids to enjoy and a huge pool outside to rest and recuperate in. A fountain sits on the middle of a huge garden area. Inside the property as shown by the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight world champ in a clip shared on social media, some 'modernising' might need to take place. But the stunning outdoor balcony and staircases provide a wonderful shell to work with. It is believed Ruiz earned an incredible £5.36m for getting into the ring, and then stopping, Joshua. The Mexican stepped in at short notice after Jarrell Miller received a ban after failing two drugs tests. Luis Ortiz … [Read more...] about Andy Ruiz Jr’s mansion bought with the millions earned from beating Anthony Joshua includes a pool and tree house
New fortified security measures at Berlin Christmas market
Two years after a deadly attack on a Berlin Christmas market left 12 people dead, imposing blockades have led to this year's market being dubbed Fort Glühwein.an iconic symbol of the holiday season in Germany. They represent warmth, community and regional pride, and can inspire a sense of childlike wonder. This is partly why the 2016 terrorist attack cut so deep into the German psyche. Cities and their police forces are determined to prevent another attack. And this year, Berlin has gone all out. All week, workers have been installing 160 giant, square, lattice-work frames on the perimeter of Charlottenburg's Breitscheidplatz, the site of the fatal attack. Enormous sand-and-stone-filled bags have been lowered into each frame, which have all been bolted to the next to form a long row. Narrow access points have been protected with extra bollards. During the market, private guards will patrol the grounds, joined by a heavy presence of uniformed and … [Read more...] about New fortified security measures at Berlin Christmas market
Study: Hacking 10 percent of self-driving cars would cause gridlock in NYC
In 2015, a pair of hackers demonstrated just how easy it was to break into the UConnect system of a Jeep Cherokee, remotely manipulating the speed, braking, steering, even shutting the car down entirely. Vehicles on the road will only have greater interconnectivity from this point forward, with self-driving cars on the horizon. That poses a unique potential risk: if someone can hack one car, what happens if they manage to hack many at once in a major metropolitan city? That question inspired scientists at the Georgia Institute of Technology to quantify the likely impact of such a large-scale hack on traffic flow in New York City. Skanda Vivek, a postdoctoral researcher at Georgia Tech, described the study's findings at the American Physical Society's 2019 March meeting, held last week in Boston. Worst-case scenario: a small-scale hack affecting just ten percent of cars on the road would be sufficient to cause city-wide gridlock, essentially cutting half of Manhattan off from the rest … [Read more...] about Study: Hacking 10 percent of self-driving cars would cause gridlock in NYC
