The Great British tradition of a game of bingo has been massively turned on its head in the past few years and a night is in the diary for a Tyneside club that looks like being an instant sell out. Now when you heard the word bingo a few years ago you'd be forgiven for thinking of dabbers and blue rinses, but now bingo has taken on a life of it's own that has catapulted the past-time to a whole new level. First came Bongo's Bingo, which has been packing out Boiler Shop for over two years now and then there was Bingo Revolution, which has hosted huge events like one at Newcastle Christmas Village and will soon join forces with Filthy's bar in the Bigg Market for Filthy Comedy Bingo. A popular, alternative bingo night has announced two extra dates in Hull. Tickets for the first Bongo’s Bingo, happening next month, were snapped up as soon as they were released, and organisers have revealed details of two extra dates in March. A spokesman for the alternative club night said: “Since its debut in late summer last year, Hull has been inspired by a series of crazy events which have had queues right around the block. “At its heart, it’s all about playing bingo as part of an immersive social experience, with the traditional UK pastime wildly reinvented." A typical Bongo Bingo night sees dancing on tables, on-stage dance-offs and amazing prizes - like mobility scooters and big cash prizes. Music is equally eclectic, from 80s power ballads to 90s pop classics, Guns and Roses rock to rave and trance. Bongo's Bingo has announced it will start doing brunch - launching on Sunday, August 12 at Camp and Furnace in Liverpool. Taking place from mid-day through to 5.30pm, the new show will feature the usual Bongo's atmosphere, including crazy and iconic prizes and big cash handouts. But this event, will have a 'touch of sophistication and refinement' including food from Delifonseca. The launch is aimed at providing a different way to experience the UK phenomenon and will include free fizz for the first hour. The brunch includes several meat, vegetarian and vegan courses, including nibbles and big plates. A spokesperson said: "Brunch by Bongo’s Bingo is all set to take the city by storm and offer a different way to experience the phenomenon which continues to spread across the UK and further around the world this year." Bongo's Bingo has quite simply become a phenomenon in Newcastle . It might have been born in Liverpool, but Geordies have taken the mad melting pot of bingo, rave and absurd prizes to their hearts. Everytime a string of new dates are announced for huge city centre haunt Boiler Shop tickets are snapped up within a minute and that's a lot to do with the man on the decks every time it's up here. DJ Mickey Pickles, real name Mick Ledwich, has been with Bongo's from the start and as it gets set to celebrate two years of coming to the Toon, he'll be on the decks again this Saturday night.
