Like an addict scheming to get the next fix, Stephanie Brown found ways to watch her favorite television shows. She’d go to Netflix looking for a hookup. If that didn’t work, Amazon was just up the block. Like all good dealers, the streaming television services know how to get you hooked, even if that means giving away product for free. For the binge TV addict, free product is good. “I’m an extreme binge watcher,” Brown says. “I binge everything. I get the free week of Showtime just to watch “Shameless” each year and I have the whole season watched in less then two days – then I cancel.” You can hardly blame her. “Shameless” is a quirky dark comedy and who can stop at just one episode when William H. View Comments Multnomah County library cardholders can now watch six movies a month online via Kanopy. As of Oct. 1, library patrons now have free access to 30,000 films via the online streaming service Kanopy. Current listings include everything from the classic melodrama "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to horror hit "Let the Right One In" or cult favorite "Harold and Maude." To access the site, library card holders should click here and create an account with a username, email and password. After verifying the account by email, the final step is to register your unique library card number (printed on the back of the card) and your PIN. If you don't have a library card yet, you'll need to make the trek to one of the system's 19 branches. Warning: This article contains mild spoilers for “The First.” Hulu released “The First,” a new original series, on Sept. 14, 2018. Hulu originals often fall short when compared to originals from Netflix or HBO. Shows like “The Path” are aggravating at best, but there are the occasional gems such as “The Handmaid’s Tale.” While “The First” may not quite be a gem, it still manages to be beautifully polished. Created by Beau Willimon, known for his work on Netflix original “House of Cards,” “The First” is a show about the people who will, one day, be the first people to set foot on Mars.
