Android Q Beta 5 brings us so close to a stable build of Android Q that we’re compiling yet another list of changes. You would think that Google wouldn’t be changing much at this point, but there are already a handful of changes worth noting. We’ll keep updating this post, so check back! This is what’s new in Android Q Beta 5. Gestures get corner swipes for Google Assistant With full gestures in full effect, Google had to get tricky with ways to activate Google Assistant, now that there isn’t a home button to long press on. To give users access in Android Q to Assistant at all times, Google put in place a corner swipe that fires it up. You can see the little handles in each corner in the image above that highlight the areas you need to swipe from. Swiping from the corners launches Google Assistant. Further, Assistant features a … [Read more...] about Android Q Beta 5 to bring new Assistant animation and gesture
If you’re curious about what the Android Q experience will be like, but have been holding off on installing any Android Q betas, it might be time to try out the latest version, released today. Not only is this iteration of Android Q “very close” to what you’ll experience in Android Q’s full public release, as Google describes, moving up to Android Q is a great way to thwart annoying apps from harvesting data they shouldn’t otherwise be able to access. What’s new in Android Q Beta 5 Aside from a new dark theme for the Pixel boot-up screen and the usual performance tweaks, Android Q Beta 5 makes some changes to gesture-based navigation controls—a defining feature of Android Q. These include: A new “Peek” gesture, where users can tap the screen to summon a little tab for the navigation drawer, which then can then swipe to open. This should mitigate the chances of accidentally inputting a “back” gesture when you … [Read more...] about It’s Time to Try Android Q Beta 5
