Southampton bad-boy set for comeback two years after retiring — to be in a band

Southampton ‘s one-time record signing Dani Osvaldo is making a comeback — two years after quitting the game to become a rock star. Osvaldo, now 32, who turned his back on football in the summer of 2016 to concentrate on being lead singer for Spanish band Barrio Viejo, is considering an offer from Argentinean league leaders Racing Club de Avellaneda to pull on his boots again. Racing are still in the market for a striker after selling Lautaro Martinez to Inter Milan in the summer and have asked Osvaldo to fill the void. Osvaldo, who was born in Argentina but decided to play for Italy at international level because of his ancestry, became Southampton’s most expensive player in 2013 when he arrived in the Premier League a £13million deal from Roma. But he never settled at St Mary’s and was suspended by Saints after a training-ground incident in which he headbutted team-mate Jose Fonte.
