MANILA – Senior citizens will be treated to free rides on the MRT and LRT line 2 on the first week of October, a lawmaker said Friday. “In observance of Elderly Filipino Week, EDSA MRT rides from October 1 to 7 will be free for all seniors with their ID showing their date of birth,” Senior Citizen Party-list Rep. Francisco Datol Jr. said in a statement. Free rides on the LRT-2 will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The MRT has yet to clarify if the free rides for the elderly will be limited to certain hours. The LRT Line 2 management will provide special gates for senior citizens, while free magnetic tickets will be given to the elderly who will take the MRT, Datol said. The MRT line traverses from Quezon City to Pasay City, while the LRT-2 line stretches from Santolan near Pasig to Recto in Manila.
