While Manchester United and Manchester City take a break from a gruelling league schedule for an international break, that doesn’t mean fans have to go without their football fix this weekend. Premier League and Championship clubs are without games this weekend meaning fans of United, City, Bolton and Wigan do not have a game to see. But there is plenty of lower-league action to sample on Saturday, including National League leaders Salford City – owned by United’s famous ‘Class of 92’, and National League North side FC United of Manchester. Salford face bottom side Braintree, while FC United host Darlington FC. For City fans wanting a non-league game with a connection to the Blues, they could be tempted by a trip to Cheshire to watch Maine Road FC at Barnton. Maine Road were formed in the 1950’s by City fans and have a proud history in the Manchester football scene. They currently play in the North West Counties Football League First Division South. Stockport County face Hereford FC, while there are also home games for Abbey Hey, Altrincham, Droylsden, Hyde, Trafford FC and West Didsbury and Chorlton AFC among others. In League One, Rochdale host Doncaster. Non-League Day was set up in 2010 to encourage fans of league clubs to support their local non-league sides.
