Walmart is expanding its online grocery service to bring delivery to the Birmingham area. Grocery delivery is an extension of the chain’s curbside pickup service, which is available at 15 stores in the Birmingham metro area right now. Walmart plans to roll out online grocery delivery to 100 metro areas by the end of this year nationwide. To use the service, customers visit the website or use the Walmart Grocery mobile app, enter their zip codes and begin creating shopping lists. No subscription is required, but there is a $9.95 fee. Items are priced the same as in store, Walmart says. During checkout, customers select a time to for their order to be delivered. At the time of checkout, customers will pay the delivery fee. No money is exchanged at the customer’s door. From there, personal grocery shoppers fill the orders. The orders will then be delivered within a one-hour delivery window chosen by the shopper. Customers can get their first order delivered for free with promo code FRESHCAR with a $50 minimum order.
