Having lost no wickets in the morning session, England lost 3-13 in the first few overs after Lunch to be pegged back. Rory Burns, though, like he did in the first Test, held his ground firmly and led England to the break at 152 for 4 on Thursday (June 10), unbeaten on 73. England scored 85 runs in the 27 overs in the session. It was the first time since 2011 that an England opening pair batted out an opening session of a home Test. Burns and Dom Sibley had navigated New Zealand’s attack with ease in the opening session adding 72 runs in their stand. On the last ball of the first over after Lunch, Matt Henry struck with a short-of-a-good-length ball that straightened slightly to take the edge as Sibley was dismissed for 35.
