A murder-style probe has been launched after a woman died following an alleged assault. Leanne Patterson, 36, from Blyth, Northumberland, died last week after an alleged attack at the end of March. Five men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of murder but have been released under investigation pending further inquiries. Now police are asking for any witnesses to the alleged assault to contact them. Northumbria Police say Mrs Patterson is understood to have been assaulted in the Princess Louise Road area of Blyth at around 1.45pm on Thursday, March 29. She was admitted to hospital a number of days later but her condition deteriorated and she died last Wednesday, April 18. Officers are particularly interested in speaking to any witnesses who may have been in the Princess Louise Road area at the time of the assault on March 29. A police spokesman said specially trained officers are working with the family to keep them updated “through this difficult time”.
