Hanoi court suspends trial of former ACB execsChien Thang and Hong Phuc By Chien Thang and Hong Phuc – The Saigon Times Daily HANOI – The Hanoi People’s Court decided on April 16 to suspend the hearing of a high-profile case against Nguyen Duc Kien, former vice chairman of Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), and other ex-leaders of the bank since Tran Xuan Gia, one of the defendants, did not show up due to health problems. Nguyen Huu Chinh, deputy head of the Hanoi People’s Court who presided over the hearing, said the health situation of Gia, former chairman of the HCMC-based bank, had been confirmed. Gia is now receiving medical treatment at Huu Nghi Hospital due to high blood pressure and enlargement of the prostate gland. Chinh concluded that Gia was unable to show up, so the hearing was adjourned as permitted by the Law on Criminal Proceedings. However, the court did not say when the hearing would resume. In the morning, lawyers of Gia and ACB proposed delaying the trial to protect the interests of ACB as Gia should answer a lot of questions before the court.
