My mornings usually begin with the sharp, annoying ringing of an alarm clock. But on my first day aboard the Deccan Odyssey in India, I woke up to Harish, my appointed butler, knocking on my cabin door at 7 a.m. with a cup of tea. Harish then escorted me to the breakfast coach, where I watched a beautiful sunrise from the train’s windows while enjoying a completely satisfying meal. Before heading inland for a long day’s excursion, I was greeted on the platform with a garland of flowers by a welcome committee that included a live local band.
