It's been 37 years since Susan Simon, fresh out of college and still living with her parents in New Jersey, attended a classmate's wedding in a residential building on Central Park West — and stayed. "It was an incredible building," said Ms. Simon, a designer. "I was offered a sublet, and I grabbed it." The rent for the spacious two-bedroom was $270 a month.
