Hull City owners Assem and Ehab Allam no longer expect to conclude a takeover before the turn of the year after arriving at an impasse in their attempts to sell to a consortium led by former chairman Paul Duffen. The Allam family made their intentions clear to leave the KCOM Stadium before Christmas as far back as September but those hopes have now been dashed after making little or no progress over recent weeks. A group fronted by Duffen has always been considered the frontrunners in talks and completed a period of due diligence last month. That was expected to lead to the Allams handing over control but Duffen’s consortium has not yet been in a position to complete. Sources close to the deal insist talks are ongoing but, perhaps tellingly, it is understood City’s owners are exploring alternative options as they begin a ninth year of ownership today. A failure to conclude a deal with Duffen and his backers would lead the Tigers back to square one in the search for new … [Read more...] about Hull City takeover: Allam family hit roadblock in sale attempt
Wigan are prepared to offer Gary Madine a way out of his Cardiff City nightmare, according to reports. Madine has yet to score a goal since his £6million move to the Bluebirds and is wanted by the Latics. The Sun report Wigan want to take Madine on loan in January, with a view to signing him on a permanent deal. If so, it would represent a win-win situation for everybody. Madine has struggled terribly with Cardiff and many fans feel he has done little to justify the fee paid during the last January transfer window. Since making his debut in a 4-1 win over Leeds, Madine has not managed to bag a goal - the currency for stirkers. This season he has had little more than a bit-part role, with just six appearances to his name, and could get game time with the Latics. Wigan feel Madine can score goals at Championship level, which he proved with Bolton, if not Cardiff, and hope he can help keep them in the division. A loan move would also enable the Bluebirds to free up a wage as boss … [Read more...] about Bluebirds struggler Gary Madine targeted by Wigan

Simply getting the game on when all but two of the 55 scheduled matches across the Macron Devon and Exeter League and county cup competitions were called off – was a terrific thing – and much of the successful ground work was down to the extraordinary efforts of Ottery chairman Mikey Ringer.Leading scorer Corey Ringer, son of the club chairman, was one of the goal scorers – that, his 20th of the campaign and the other Ottery goals came from, Tom Purdy (2), Curtis Winchcombe, Connor Lovering and Jordan Wilkinson.Ottery boss Dave Fairweather said: “It was great to make it eight wins in a row. We put in another team performance in difficult conditions. It is … [Read more...] about Ottery make it a great eight – but will the run now end as the 2014/15 one did ?

Picture: Terry Ife Archant The third Saturday of December was certainly a ‘Soggy Saturday’ as far as local sport is concerned. There was no action for either Sidmouth Town or Sidmouth Chiefs and, across the board, there was precious little action for rugby and football teams, with locally, only Ottery St Mary beating the weather to stage their football match. In local football, Sidmouth Town had been due to host Axminster Town in a much anticipated South West Peninsula League Eastern Division game – but the Manstone Lane meeting – like all seven scheduled matches in the division, fell to the rain. Town are without a scheduled league game this coming Saturday (December 22) and so will next be in action when they entertain Budleigh Salterton in a Boxing Day morning meeting (11am).In the remainder of the South West … [Read more...] about Sporting washout for local teams on a soggy December Saturday
PUBLISHED: 11:19 16 December 2018 Steve Birley The third Saturday of December was certainly a ‘Soggy Saturday’ as far as local sport is concerned. Exmouth RFC had a real effort at trying to get their South West Premier home game against Drybrook on – they had a work party with wellington boots band forks working the surface of the Imperial Ground pitch, but the elements defeated them! The other Premier Division game to be off was the one at Newton Abbot and they, like the Cockles, will try again this coming Saturday (December 22).The matches that were played in the section saw the ‘juggernaut’ that is Bournemouth win away again, this time they won 16-7 at Barnstaple, while the other four matches were all won by the home side’s with wins for Ivybridge, Maidenhead, Old Patesians and Weston-super-Mare.Withycombe managed to get their Tribute Cornwall and Devon game on, but it ended in another defeat as Plymouth Argaum departed … [Read more...] about No action for the Cockles or Exmouth Town on a soggy December Saturday
