South Korea's Samsung Electronics said it has received "a few" reports of damage to the main display of samples of its upcoming foldable smartphone and that it will investigate. Some tech reviewers of the Galaxy Fold, a splashy $1,980 (roughly Rs. 1.4 lakhs) phone that opens into a tablet and that goes on sale in the United States on April 26, said the phone malfunctioned after only a day or two of use. "We will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter," Samsung said in a statement, noting that a limited number of early Galaxy Fold samples were provided to media for review. The problem seems to be related to the unit's screen either cracking or flickering, according to Twitter posts by technology journalists from Bloomberg, The Verge and CNBC who received the phone this week for review purposes. Samsung, which has advertised the phone as "the future", said removing a protective layer of its main display might cause damage, and that it will clearly … [Read more...] about Samsung Galaxy Fold’s Screen Malfunctions in Some Early Review Models, Company to Investigate
Apple Inc was accused in a new lawsuit of securities fraud for concealing a slump in demand for iPhones, particularly in China, leading to a $74 billion (roughly Rs. 5,10,000 crores) one-day slide in its market value once the truth became known. The complaint filed on Tuesday seeks damages for investors who bought Apple stock in the two months before Chief Executive Tim Cook on January 2 unexpectedly reduced Apple's quarterly revenue forecast as much as $9 billion (roughly Rs. 62,500 crores), in part because of the intensifying US trade war with China. It was the first time since the iPhone's 2007 launch that Apple had cut its revenue forecast. Apple's share price fell 10 percent the next day, leaving the Cupertino, California-based company's market value roughly 40 percent below its $1.1 trillion (roughly Rs. 76 lakh crores) peak three months earlier. Cook and Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri were also named as defendants in the proposed class action. Apple did not … [Read more...] about Apple Accused of Securities Fraud Over Hiding iPhone Sales Drop in US Lawsuit
Amazon.com plans to close its domestic marketplace in China by mid-July, people familiar with the matter told Reuters, focusing efforts on more lucrative businesses selling overseas goods and cloud services in the world's most populous nation. Amazon shoppers in China will no longer be able to buy goods from third-party merchants in the country, but they still will be able to order from the United States, Britain, Germany and Japan via the firm's global store. Amazon expects to close fulfilment centres and wind down support for domestic-selling merchants in China in the next 90 days, one of the people said. The move underscores how entrenched, home-grown e-commerce rivals have made it difficult for Amazon's marketplace to gain a foothold. Consumer insights firm iResearch Global said Alibaba Group Holding's Tmall marketplace and JD.com controlled 81.9 percent of the Chinese market last year. "They're pulling out because it's not profitable and not growing," said analyst … [Read more...] about Amazon Said to Close Its Chinese Online Store by Mid-July
Stock researcher OTR Global says that Apple has missed its first fiscal shipment estimates, and managed to ship between 37 million units and 42 million units. Apple's first fiscal is counted as the period between October to December last year, and the firm had previously predicted that Apple would ship about 40 to 45 million units in that quarter. The research firm also predicts that Apple's second fiscal iPhone shipments will also see a year-on-year decline by 21 percent to 24 percent. The decline are said to be due to weak demand of the new iPhone XS and iPhone XR models. The firm expects Apple to ship 28 million to 33 million units in second fiscal quarter. The second fiscal quarter runs through January till March, and Apple will release the numbers in its report earnings on April 30. The numbers suggest a year-on-year downfall … [Read more...] about iPhone Shipments to See Up to 24 Percent Decline on Weak iPhone XS, iPhone XR Demand: Report
