Last year on a national level, female-fronted acts like Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy released the most interesting indie-rock around. Right now, Silver Fern is striking a similar tone locally. The group's music revolves around singer/guitarist Shannon Wrenn's art-folk stylings and guitarist Steven Whaley's pedalboard alchemy. Metallica shirt-wearing drummer Jacob Stewart and bassist Stone Anderson, the latter also of rockers Rob Aldridge & The Proponents, push in the right places. This week Silver Fern releases a five-song, self-titled debut EP.
