PUBG Mobile has become a benchmark when it comes to mobile gaming performance. Having said that, it is a step behind as smartphone makers have already brought 90Hz and 120Hz displays, while the game is still capped at 60fps. Now we did report in the past that 90fps and 120fps modes are being tested on the game, but Qualcomm’s ongoing Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii gives us a better picture. During the announcement of the new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 865, Qualcomm spoke about the prowess of the new chip and how it comes with support for 5G, 200-megapixel cameras, and even 144Hz displays. For gamers, specifically PUBG Mobile, the new chip will bring support for true 10-bit HDR and 90fps mode. Windows chief Terry Myerson kicked off the event with a brief intro of what we can expect today – feedback from users, Cortana and new hardware devices – and moving forward – apparently Microsoft is planning several additional Windows 10 events just like this before its consumer launch. Windows 10 update will be free The first major news of the day is that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade from Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 7 for the first year. That last bit is huge as Windows 7 is found on nearly half of all Windows-based PCs. And once a device is upgraded to Windows 10, it’ll be supported for the lifetime of the device. It's a move that'll no doubt drive adoption sky high in the first year. Interestingly enough, Microsoft is pitching Windows 10 as more of a service than an operating system. Myerson even said that one can think of Windows as one of the largest Internet services on the planet. Before jumping into Cortana, Microsoft took a … [Read more...] about New for Windows 10: free update for most, Spartan revealed, local game streaming, holograms and more
If you've been following Windows releases closely over the past decade, the news that DirectX 12 will be included with the final version of Windows 10 won't come as a massive surprise. Microsoft recently confirmed this news in a blog post, although they weren't particularly forthcoming with details. One thing that still remains up in the air is which previous versions of Windows, if any, will support DirectX 12. When DirectX 11 launched with Windows 7, it was shortly released on Windows Vista as well; however with DirectX 11.1, Microsoft only released some features of the new graphics API some weeks after Windows 8 was made available. With Microsoft looking to shift people away from using Windows 7, it's doubtful that DirectX 12 will be backported to the most popular version of the operating system. However, it typically takes the gaming industry several years before we see broad adoption of a new Direct3D API, so you'll have plenty of time to prepare yourself for a major OS … [Read more...] about DirectX 12 to launch with Windows 10 next year
