This week Apple released the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max and all three handsets lack a fingerprint sensor but support facial recognition within their notch — similar to the iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR. Google’s Pixel 4 and 4 XL will launch next month, and they too will lack a fingerprint sensor. These devices don’t sport a notch. However, they will use a big top bezel that will feature proper facial recognition technology. Some smartphones like Huawei’s Mate 30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and the LG G8 ThinQ manage to use both 3D facial recognition and a fingerprint scanner. Both Mate devices use an under-display fingerprint scanner, whereas the G8 ThinQ uses a typical physical sensor. However, the in-display sensors in the Mate handsets are simply optical and not ultrasonic like the ones on the Samsung’s Galaxy S10 series and Note 10 series. And plenty of smartphones like the Huawei P30 Pro and S10 face-scanning tech are not three-dimensional making it less … [Read more...] about Would you rather: In-display fingerprint sensor or face unlock?
The long wait is over: OxygenOS 10.0, which runs on Android 10, has begun rolling out to OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro devices. The Chinese company announced the update on its community forums along with details of the rollout and a changelog. According to the post, the update will start with a “limited number of users” of OnePlus 7 phones and some models of the 7 Pro beginning September 21st. OnePlus refers explicitly to the update as a “staged OTA,” meaning it will come to more 7 Pro devices in the coming days. Additionally, the company acknowledged that the rollout isn’t limited or affected by region. Because of the limited rollout, OnePlus has not yet released the update for users to install manually. In the past, manual installation served as a way to bypass the wait. Finally, OnePlus confirmed the update would come to several other devices but did not offer a timeline. Here’s a list of all devices set to receive the update in the future: OnePlus 5/5T … [Read more...] about Android 10-based OxygenOS 10.0 update coming to OnePlus 7, 7 Pro
During a public photo op with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Trump unleashed another bizarre, rambling, incoherent answer to a reporter’s question that just leaves you scratching your head. He was asked about the importance of Australia’s mining industry and fumbled around trying to find a point.“Coal, as an example, you’re the leader of safety in coal digging and we’ve actually studied it,” the president said. “We’re doing a lot of coal. You have very little — you have almost no — used to have a thing, black lung disease, and in Australia you almost don’t have it anymore, you’ve got all of the dust down.” After Morrison touted technological progress that has helped the environment, the president again jumped in with a non-sequitur about digging. “Environmentally, I have to say — and environmentally, the things they’ve done environmentally with digging. Digging is a, uh, you … [Read more...] about Trump’s Latest Incoherent Rant
A Canadian appeals court on Thursday exonerated an Alberta man and his wife of responsibility in the 2012 death from meningitis of their 19-month-old son, Ezekiel. His parents treated him with smoothies laced with garlic, onion and horseradish, and other alternative remedies, instead of taking him to a doctor. David and Collet Stephan had originally been tried and convicted in 2016 of “failing to provide the necessaries of life” to their dangerously ill son, but Canada’s Supeme Court overturned the conviction in May 2018 and ordered a new trial, citing errors in the original judge’s instructions to the jury, the online Lethbridge News Now reported.Supporters in the courtroom cheered when Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Terry Clackson issued his brief ruling Thursday in a Lethbridge, Alberta, courtroom. Justice Clackson sided with the defense’s medical experts in his ruling, holding that the boy had likely died of viral meningitis and not the more … [Read more...] about Son with meningitis was fed smoothies, died.
